Perfect Vision With Corneal Refractive Therapy

even with glasses or contacts.

"Corneal refractive therapy is a great option for all ages," says Dr. Nierman. "And parents and patients alike may want to know that the process does not make any permanent changes to the cornea. If someone decides they want to reverse the process and go back to glasses or contacts, all they need to do is stop inserting their therapeutic lenses at night, and their vision, along with their cornea, will return to its original state."

Presently, CRT is only available for low-to-moderate myopics – people with nearsighted vision and/or astigmatism – and it makes a dramatic improvement in their vision in as little as two or three days. The process, explains Dr. Nierman, involves reshaping – actually flattening – the cornea while the wearer sleeps. Upon waking, the oxygen-permeable contact lenses are removed, and within just a few days, the patient is able to see clearly without any other intervention.

"I'm not kidding when I say I had horrible vision," says Schein, whose prescription went from a -2.75 to 0 within three days. According to Dr. Nierman, Schein's experience is not unique. "Most patients have rapid improvement in just a few days, achieving their optimum vision within a week to two weeks," he says.

"It's fantastic and really feels like a miracle," says Schein. "I now have 20/15 vision, which is better than when I wore my contacts. CRT drastically improved my vision, making everything clearer and well-defined. Before it was like every day was a foggy day."
